It has been operating by A/S Norske Shell until sold to AS OKEA in 2018. ![]() One well alone produced a daily maximum of 77 000 barrels. Draugen is an oil field in the Norwegian Sea with a sea depth of 250 metres. Plans assumed an average output of about 90 000 barrels per day when the field was developed, but both reservoir and platform proved capable of producing more.Īt peak, Draugen yielded roughly 225 000 barrels of oil per day. In other words, it has already produced far more oil than was originally thought possible and is positioned to become one of the world’s best offshore performers in terms of recovery factor. The GBS was installed at the Haltenbank area on the Norwegian continental shelf in May 1993 for A/S Norske Shell. Draugen now ranks among the Norwegian fields with the highest recovery factors, at around 70 per cent. The paper gives a general description of the Concrete Gravity Base Structure (GBS) for the Draugen platform installed by Norwegian Contractors a.s. Okea operates the Draugen licence and the Hasselmus project on 44.56 and is joined by Norway’s. This proportion remained below 40 per cent when the field came on stream in 1993, but has more than doubled since then. Hasselmus is located in production licence 093, 7 kilometres north-west of the Draugen platform. When Draugen was discovered, Shell estimated a recovery factor of about 17 per cent of resources in place – a conclusion which was realistic in the 1980s. In the western part, production also comes from the Middle Jurassic sandstones in the Garn formation. Its main reservoir is the Rogn formation, formed of Late Jurassic sandstone. The field was discovered in 1984 and production started in 1993. Since oil from the Halten Bank has migrated eastwards and upwards, Draugen is shallower than other reservoirs in the area at a depth of 1 600 metres. Like the other Condeep concrete platforms, the Draugen GBS had cylindrical storage tanks clustered around the central shaft. The Draugen platform is a Condeep gravity-based structure offshore oil and natural gas platform on the Draugen field off the west coast of Norway. Surprise discoveryĪ lot of people were surprised when Draugen was discovered in 1984, because the field lies in a place where most geologists had not expected to find oil-bearing strata. ![]() It also marked the first time that Shell produced oil as an operator on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), and occurred on the northernmost platform operated by the company worldwide. Discovered in 1984, the Draugen oil field commenced operations in 1993. Both the Draugen field and the Hasselmus gas discovery are located in PL 093 in the south Norwegian Sea. Initiating offshore output above the 62nd parallel (the northern limit of the North Sea), this milestone was passed on Draugen in the Halten Bank area, 145 kilometres north-west of Kristiansund. The Hasselmus field development will be the first tieback to the Draugen platform. The deal is part of Shells global 30 billion divestment program and will see the supermajor exits its 44.
